Thrifting Adventures #1

(previously posted on my other blog, SNAZZYNESS)

Let me just start out by say that I LOVE thrifting. The fact that I can get very nice items for less that $10 thrills me. SO a few days ago I went ahead and tried a different Plato’s Closet. I have always loved this store, but was upset when the one near me moved farther away. Anyways, as I was saying, I went to Plato’s Closet. Usually I have a hard time finding something in my size or that fits right. This time, I actually found stuff I was looking for. Here’s what I got.

What do you think of my finds? The forever21 items I was really excited about, because I actually saw them in the store before buying them, and held out,  and Voila!

Here are some tips to be a successful thrifter:

  1. Don’t expect to find what you are looking for. remember, this is a thrift store, not Macy’s. You will usually find different or unique things, not items you will typically find in a department store.

  2. Bring cash. Some smaller, local thrift stores don’t accept credit cards.

  3. Have time. Don’t expect to find something right away. I like to start in the morning, and sometimes I don’t get done until five. But it is worth it!

  4. Bring your own bag! Thrift stores typically do not have carts or baskets. BYOB to keep your hands free!

  5. Bring your friends. Friends who have similar taste can help you decide whether something is worth buying or not. They can also give you advice on how something looks on you.

  6. Know the return policy. Some stores don’t have changing rooms. make sure you can return the item. I suggest running to the nearest department store, mall, or even gas station, trying on your clothes, and seeing how they look. anything that doesn’t fit right, take it back.
